Samantha | Prom 2013

Dearest friends, followers, and maybe fans,

This past weekend, I had the privilege to take pictures of my friend, Sam, before her prom. This was a first for me, but I had loads of fun experimenting (especially with make-up shots), and her and her date, Wyatt, were such a good looking couple to photograph.

A few words about Sam: Sam is funny, tiny, and absolutely beautiful. She is full of fun and has no trouble putting a smile on your face. I have known her since freshman year, and it has been such a pleasure getting to know her better as the years have passed.

And now for the stunning lady herself…

Elizabeth | Blue Pants & Baby Sea Lions

Dear friends, followers, and visitors,
I am sure that you have all experienced the overwhelming pleasure and satisfaction of having a true and dear friend. I have a friend in Elizabeth, and am thankful for her and all of the delightful times and talks we have together.

A striking quality about Elizabeth is her abundant compassion for others. She always manages to assume the best in people, and the things that happen around her. Instead of picking out the negative qualities in others, she finds the very things that make others beautiful. I admire that so much.

Here is my dear friend Elizabeth (whom I call Lizzy). We had a marvelous time taking pictures in one of my top five places in the world. She wore some fantastic electric blue pants, and we were able to see and take pictures of baby sea lions. She is exactly one of those people who is beautiful inside and out.

Capturing Love

Dearest bloggers, readers, followers, visitors,
On this lovely Valentine’s Day, I thought it would be appropriate to share with you my favorite photograph of all time. But first, I must share with you the story that accompanies it.

Photography is in my blood…literally. My great-aunt and Dad were both photographers, and I’m so blessed to have my dad as a mentor in my photographic aspirations. I adore looking through old photo albums and briefcases filled with raw prints of his pictures. Each one conveys something vibrant and beautiful, a feeling or emotion that practically leaps out of the photograph. In a time before digital photography, he was able to cultivate the art of getting the perfect picture in one, maybe two, tries. I admire both of these skills so much.

My favorite photo is one that conveys love. It is one that had to be taken in one try, or else it would not have captured the right reaction. This photograph tells the story of my dad & mom’s engagement.

One February evening, my dad took my mom to Malibu beach so that they could take pictures. He often used her as his subject in photos, so this outing was seemingly nothing out of the ordinary. They arrived at the beach during golden hour, prime time for taking beautiful pictures. My dad set up his tripod and camera, and then posed my mom. He set the camera on timer, so that he would be in the picture with my mom, ran behind her, put his arms around her, and revealed to her a gorgeous engagement ring, just in time for the camera to take the picture and capture her reaction. He succeeded in capturing love.

I love every little thing about this picture, and I love my parents. I love their love for each other, and their love for me and my siblings. So much love. :)

I hope you all have a marvelous Valentine’s Day! Cherish those you love, and those who love you.

Yours truly,
Caroline

My Family & Missy | Trip to the Getty

Dear reader,

Today I have a special treat for you, for I am going to share with you, pictures of some of the closest people to my heart: my family, and my best friend, Melissa (but I call her Missy). Two weeks ago, during my winter break, we all went to the Getty Museum, one of my all-time favorite places in California. I adore the architecture, the view of L.A., the exhibits, the sounds, the smells, the gardens, and even the granite that paves each walkway: it is beautiful. Even if you’re not the “artistic” type, I highly suggest you visit it at least once in your lifetime. Anyways, I brought my camera, and took some candids and some posed portraits of these loved ones, and had a splendid time. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. :)

Jenna & Kendra | A Broken Camera

Hello followers, fans, and visitors

A few weeks ago, my friends, Jenna and Kendra (whom have appeared in past shoots before), and I decided to go on a photo shoot. We planned on experimenting with locations, props, and clothes, almost like a stylized shoot. The first evening, we planned on arriving at a bridge at golden hour. However, we ended up arriving at said location as the sun was setting. Not only that, but my camera was not working properly, and I was having a difficult time focusing on these two models (which is why you may notice that some of the pictures are blurry). We came back to the location around noon the next day, then went to some hills, and I did the best I could to get some nice shots.

It was a fun little adventure, and these two girls are beautiful on the inside and out. They are dear friends, and I can’t wait to share these photos with you.

May I present to you for the second and third time, Kendra and Jenna. :)

Celina | Headshots

Dearest followers and visitors,

It has been a while since I last blogged, and I am terribly sorry for the inactivity that has occurred. I will do whatever it takes to not let that happen again and work harder to update and post the photos that I love sharing with you all. This is my pledge to YOU.

This specific photo shoot was actually taken over the summer (I know, quite a long time ago) but I absolutely adore some of the shots I got. My friend Celina desires to be an actress, and needed some photos to submit to an acting agency. She kindly asked me to do a shoot with her, and of course I said yes! It was an intense shoot, to say the least. Other than being remarkably warm, we went to three different locations, had quite a few outfit changes, and I ended up taking a lot of pictures. It was a great time bonding, and I am glad to say I got to know Celina better because of it.

Here the marvelous actress is. :)

Kendra | Senior Portraits

Dear fellow bloggers, readers, and photographers,
A year ago, on Kendra’s 16th birthday, I told her I would do a photo shoot for her as part of her present and she told me in return that she would rather wait until she got her braces off. This photo shoot was so enjoyable (minus dodging snakes) and I was blown away by Kendra’s modeling skills! So here is her 16th birthday present, and are you in for a treat!

Kendra, you have been such a sweet friend ever since freshman year. It saddens me that you are going to leave me after next year, since you are going to be a SENIOR! I’m excited to see where life takes you and what you’ll be doing in the very near future. You are talented, beautiful, and unbelievably kindhearted. No matter what happens in the future, don’t change yourself to please others and don’t think you’re anything less than what you are. I love you so much!
Yours truly,
Caroline

Hayley | Stylized Shoot: 3 Belts

Hello followers & visitors!
A week or two ago, I was feeling very experimental and wanted to go scout locations for photo shoots. In order to do that, I needed a model and what better person is there than my lovely sister, Hayley. (who also wanted a new profile picture hehe)I dressed her up and did her hair and added a random, visually appealing touch to her outfit: three multi-colored and slim belts. She wasn’t super thrilled about this at first, but after looking through the pictures, they seemed to grow on her more. :) Hopefully, you’ll be accepting of my odd and spontaneous addition as well!

Pretty Flowers & Places to Sit | Samantha

Hello there followers, readers, and visitors!

Have I got a treat for you today. Last week, I rather spontaneously asked my friend Sam if she would be willing to model for me, and she agreed to! Knowing that it was last minute and not having the largest time frame in the world, I asked if we could do it in her backyard, if there were “pretty flowers and places to sit.” Sam replied by saying her backyard did not consist of these two things; however, her sweet mother suggested a trip to the breathtaking Descanso Gardens, and it was settled!

Upon arriving, we were a bit discouraged, as the place was packed for the Cherry Blossom Festival, but we did not turn around. With gorgeous lighting, a beautiful subject, and a wonderful location, this shoot has been one of my favorites. May I present to you, Samantha Siegal.

Wide Eyes and Giggles

When I did a house shoot of 3 sisters, I was not prepared for the utter joy it gave me. These little girls are just darling, and I have the privilege of babysitting them, as well as being able to photograph them this one time.

They are young, sweet, and joyful. They have welcomed their new baby sister into the world. They have imagination, and parents that display God’s love for them.

I loved doing this shoot because it reminded me so much of childhood and how carefree it is. But more importantly, it displayed how truly beautiful family is. I love capturing moments like kisses and hugs, laughter and goofy faces. It’s just lovely to me. So may I present to you, Abby, Hannah, and Chloe.

A Velvet Chair in an Ordinary Street

What are two girls supposed to do, when they scheduled a photo shoot, but have no ride to their desired destination? This was the very problem that arose when I arrived at Makayla’s to take pictures of her and Jenna. We were losing precious daylight, so I had to quickly brainstorm an idea. I spotted a velvet chair with white studs in Makayla’s room, and I had a vision: a stylized shoot in the middle of the street. It was perfect! Out-of-the-ordinary and spontaneous…a style I had yet to depict in my photography. These two ladies got dressed up in “high-fashion” attire and we all ventured out onto the worn black top, avoiding cars and neighbors’ curious glances. Here is the fabulously chic outcome!
